POLLOCK AND POST-POLLOCK:
A PAINTING WORKSHOP with KEITH FOX |
|
|
In any one of the incredibly-energetic action paintings of Jackson Pollock (1912-1956), there is no focal point. The different colors of paint weave in and out of the composition. As part of the art movement known as Abstract Expressionism, Pollock and his wife Lee Krasner significantly influenced each other. Furthermore, the American artist Cy Twombly took inspiration from Abstract Expressionists, to blur the line between drawing and painting. In this painting workshop, we will explore the particular Abstract Expressionist techniques of Jackson Pollock, as well as Pollock’s influence on both Lee Krasner and artist Cy Twombly. Please bring a 16 by 20 inch or larger canvas, stretched or unstretched, to the first class. Latex house paint will be provided. A full materials list will be handed out during the first class.
Keith has an MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and has been a continuing
education instructor at RISD, and through the Learning Connection for several years. He is a
painter/printmaker who brings much history and practical hands-on knowledge into his classes
