Course Title: “American fauve” Milton Avery: A painting workshop
Enroll Now
Instructor: KEITH FOX

Keith FoxDescription: New England artist Milton Avery worked with color on a purely emotional level to produce startling chromatic inventions. Painters in this workshop will take inspiration from Milton Avery’s artistic explorations to depict recognizable subject matter in a colorful, semi abstract style.    By the end of this painting workshop, artists will learn to use Avery’s three-step process of incorporating the philosophic concept of the simulacrum (something that has a vague or tentative resemblance to something else)  into artistic practice.

The only prerequisite for this course is basic drawing skills.  Participants may work with acrylic or oil colors.  Please bring basic painting supplies to the first class, including a small canvas or support, black, white, orange, and blue paints. A full materials list can be viewed on our website, and will also be handed out at the first class.

Keith has an MFA from the Univ of Wisconsin, and has been a continuing ed instructor at RISD, and through the Learning Connection for several years. He is a painter/printmaker who exhibits his work internationally, and who brings much history and practical hands-on knowledge into his classes.
