Sandi GoldDescription: Using whatever materials you choose, you will learn how to paint your own pet (or perhaps your mother’s, father’s, husband’s or friend’s) and create heartfelt portraits of these little fuzzballs of love!

Workshops are small and much individual attention is given to each student. Bring in your favorite photograph of your special pet, and the art materials of your choice.  If you are new to art mediums and would like to look at suggested materials lists, please go to the South County Art Association’s website for this class.

Instructor Sandi Gold specializes in Pet Portraits and is an experienced instructor in both pastels and oil painting. This enthusiastic art teacher wants to teach you all she knows and she creates a relaxed atmosphere that is perfect for learning. Bring your own lunch on Saturday or together we’ll visit one of the many restaurants nearby

Dates/Times: Session 1: Saturday, June 28, 10 - 3 pm,
Session 2: Saturday, July 26, 10 - 3 pm

Cost: $65 members, $80 non members

Materials:
Firstly, bring a photo of your pet!
Materials list for Sandi Gold’s Class if working in pastels:
A kneaded eraser
Pastels: I use and recommend the brand Rembrandt. A box of 90 although costly, is a good place to start. (Half sticks are fine to start with if you want to save money and not make a large investment in materials.) The more you have, the easier it is for you to work.
Foam Core: to be used as a backing board for 1/2 a sheet of Canson paper.
1” Masking Tape
Vine charcoal (medium)
# 8 Flat Bristle Brush (for erasing)
Paper: Canson Mi-tienes. Middle-toned colors: Gray or Blue (not too light and not too dark.)
(Lotion –free) Baby wipes (for cleaning your hands).
Pad of white paper (nothing fancy – simply for sketching before doing your painting)
Pencil (sharpened)

Materials list for Sandi Gold’s Class if working in oils:
Permella (brand name) white oil paint (large tube)
Grumbacher Pretested Oil Paints (Do not buy student grade)
Cadmium Yellow light
Cadmium Yellow Medium
Cadmium Orange
Cadmium Red Light
Cadmium, Red Deep
Alizarin Crimson (optional)
Cerulean Blue
Colbalt Blue
French Ultramarine Blue
Permanent Green Light
Viridian (optional)
Yellow Ochre
Kneaded eraser*
Brushes: Only buy Bristle "Filberts" #2, #4, #6 Buy the best quality brushes you can afford. For example: Robert Simmons Also you will need a very small round brush for signing your work.
Turpenoid (This brand is important to buy because it is odorless. It comes in a blue and white can.) Comes in pint or quart or gallon.
A small jar (to put your Turpenoid in - The glass jar that baby food comes in works well.)
Palette knife (wood and metal) Buy the kind that is bent in the middle.
Canvas (Fredix is best although Jerry's/AWS brand is fine) 11 x 14, 12 x 16 or 16 x 20
Large pad of Palette Paper (Fits perfectly into a large blue and white palette holder.) If you prefer a wooden palette, then by all means buy one.
Optional: Large Blue and White plastic palette holder (Your palette fits in this and your paints stay fresher longer. And it makes it far easier to pack and carry your palette)
Pencil and pad* (11 x 14”ish) which is all you need for the first day of class.
Paper towels or cotton rags (for wiping your brush)
And please feel free to bring spring water to drink to class if you want to!

If you are working in a different medium and would like another set of materials to use, please contact Sandi at sandigold@verizon.net
