Buy synthetic or blended watercolor brushes.  Bring the following 4 watercolor brushes as a minimum selection . . . . . or any other watercolor brushes you own

 
  • #8 round
  • ¾ “ fla
  • 1” or 2” flat or wash brush
  • #3 rigger
  • Canvas or bamboo brush holder (optional

Watercolor Paper

 

If you already have 100% rag watercolor paper bring it.  Otherwise I recommend

 
  • One block of Arches 140 lb. cold pressed paper, size 10”X14” or 12”X16”

Watercolor Paint

 

If you already have watercolor paint, bring it.  I recommend Winsor & Newton individual paint tubes.  If you are on a budget, the Winsor & Newton student grade is called Cotman.  Another student grade is Grumbacher.  A minimum list is as follows:

 
  • French Ultramarine Blue
  • Alizarin Crimson Permanent
  • Aureolin
  • Burnt Sienna
  Other colors you may wish to add:
 
  • Cadmium Red Medium
  • Cadmium Yellow light
  • Cobalt Blue
  • Cerulean Blue
  • Viridian
Palette
 
  • John Pike palette or other white plastic palette with deep wells to hold paint and a lid for spill-free transport

Other supplies

 
  • #2B or #3B pencil
  • Pencil sharpener
  • White soft eraser: Staedtler brand is good
  • Roll of paper towels and/or box of Kleenex
  • Container to hold water (margarine tub/plastic square freezer containers are good)
  • Canvas tote to carry all supplies to class
  • Painting rag (old tee shirt or towel)
  • Sketch pad with wire binding – 6X8”, 8x10” or 9x12”
  • Snack (if you need one)
