The Art of Colored Pencils
Colored Pencils have been chosen for “painterly” as well as detailed work before the early 20th century in Europe. Relax and work at your own pace in this expressive and fun 4 week class with opportunities to observe samples and enjoy practicing special techniques unique to Wax/Clay Base and Verithian (detail) colored pencils. Experiment with specific layering and burnishing (blending) techniques to create subdued or vibrant results as basic color terminology is introduced. We’ll use brand varieties such as Prismacolor, Faber-Castell, Derwent, and an assortment of soft and hard core pencils on several textured surfaces and paper colors, identifying best choices for your chosen themed artwork.
Selected time is spent working with contour line drawing methods as well as basic depth and perspective practices. Then choose your favorite colors, subjects and styles to complete final art. Feel free to bring along items or photographs from your own collections or select from a variety of objects and images provided in class. For a small material fee, colored pencils and all necessary materials and papers are provided to you. Participants may also purchase their own colored pencils listed above and own paper choices. You’ll gain a new appreciation for the versatile colored pencil medium as you create your own unique artwork.
Material fee of $15.00 (payable to instructor) includes all necessary supplies, or you may supply your own as noted. Materials list on www.annbianchi.com - click here for materials.
