Pastel: Looseness and Luminosity August 11 - September 8
This class will capitalize on pastel as a painting, not just a drawing, medium, and on its remarkable potential for “capturing the light.” Through exercises, technique demonstrations, and free painting, we’ll focus on loosening up “tight” work to lose unnecessary detail and create bolder “brushstrokes” and interesting marks while retaining a strong realist or impressionist view of our subject. In the process, we’ll also learn to use color, value, and temperature to generate the “glow” for which pastels are famous, and to make our paintings “pop.” All levels are welcome to this class designed to advance your handling of the medium and your confidence in your artistic choice making.
