The Art of Photography | September 22
Where has photography as an art form been in the past and where is it going? What artists are having exhibits in galleries? Being published? What is the difference between their work and what you are producing? What is the mindset needed to move forward with your own photographic endeavors? Take your camera to new levels by exploring the artistic potential of the photographic medium. Whatever your interest in subject matter may be, this class will delve deep into the conceptual and aesthetic concerns of the photograph, to transcend mere documentation.
The Art of Photography is a discussion about how to be a fine art photographer and what that entails. I divide the classes into photo genres and discuss what each means, who (worldwide) is doing such work and what the mindset should be to pursue your own fine art drive.
Also included weekly are topics about presentation such as building a portfolio or how to submit images to juried shows. Students can shoot new images during the semester or look through their archives for images to share in the different genres they are interested in. I give a short review and critique during the class. Some experience recommended. This class will not teach the technical basics of using a camera. A camera is required, although shooting will not take place during class hours.
