Nature Journaling Plus a Mindful Outdoor Experience | On Location | August 8
Here is an opportunity to simultaneously get outside and go within! This is a two-pronged course where you will develop your own unique style of nature journaling while deepening your awareness of nature’s soothing atmosphere. You will be guided through a Mindful Outdoor Experience (MOE), a 30-40 minute walk allowing you to connect to the outdoors and gain inspiration from the living earth. Class locations will be in South County and emailed prior to each class. Each walk will be near a water source, a pond, brook or river to cool yourselves along the way.
Combining the MOE with nature journaling styles, techniques and simple methods for capturing what you see, hear and feel, you will begin to create your own unique style of journaling. Each class will rendezvous at a different location in RI so we may focus on plants, fauna, landscape, birds or whatever catches the eye. Each time a new lesson in journaling will be addressed. As the course unfolds you may discern what kind of journaling speaks to you. Is it writing? Is it sketching? Is it a bit of both? Through an exploration of prior nature journalists’ styles you will gather ideas, and inspiration.
Materials: To begin, a simple and inexpensive journal/notebook (bound or spiral) with blank or lined pages will do. A pencil with an eraser or a favorite pen and sturdy walking shoes are the only requirements. Other tools will be discussed as the course evolves, but no need to purchase anything that does not resonate with you personally.
Some benefits of this program: release stress, gain a deeper awareness of your surroundings and connection with nature, breathe fresh air, get moving, generate creativity and learn something new!
