Letter from the SCAA President Lynne Moulton
Hello SCAA Members,
Let’s talk about bylaws! It is good practice for any organization to periodically review their bylaws. SCAA has experienced a lot of growth in the last several years and the Board has been evaluating our bylaws to ensure they continue to serve as effective scaffolding for how the organization develops and operates. To help advise us in this review, we consulted with the Roger Williams University School of Law Business Startup Clinic. At the advanced age of 96, SCAA is hardly a business startup, but the clinic staff were excited to guide us through the process. Jen Ferry and I worked with clinic staff last winter and spring on reviewing, revising, and updating the bylaws. Our Board then worked with Jen at a retreat this summer to finalize a draft to present to you, the members, in advance of the Annual Meeting. Our goals for this process were threefold:
We are now very pleased to offer the amended bylaw draft for your review. Most of the Articles in the document have been revised in some way, so I will not list all of the changes. I encourage you to read this new draft to get a sense of the governance infrastructure we envision guiding us into the future.
We will bring the amended bylaws up for a vote at the Annual Meeting on October 29th. Please make plans to attend the meeting! If you have any feedback about the amendments, please direct it to me [email protected] or to Jen [email protected]. Sincerely, Lynne Moulton SCAA Board President |
