GIVING BACK

As a non-profit arts organization, to thrive in our mission depends on member involvement and community engagement.
We always welcome opportunities to impact the community by bringing arts awareness to the public.
It's our chance to give everyone the ability to commune in our shared love for the arts.
Art from the Heart
Community Mural
Picture
This collaborative community public art project was created by visiting community centers and holding public events and asking participants to paint a scene of what South County means to them. All together 96 individuals, of all ages, each painted a 4" x 4" canvas tile. It is now a large scale mural that is permanently hung at the Peace Dale Library. Funds to complete this project came from a Rhode Island Foundation grant and the People's Credit Union provided funding for the materials.
Prout School
Student Exhibit

We're happy to host Prout student artwork in our small gallery in January. This exhibit launches our new initiative designed to encourage young artists to express and display their creativity through community partnerships with our local high schools.

This show is curated by Kristen Rich and Michael Elson, Prout High School Art Teachers. Kristen Rich says, "At the Prout School, we believe that our creativity is truly a gift to be nurtured and developed. Visual art plays an important role in educating the whole person, and we offer a wide variety of creative experiences for our students."
Student of
the Month
Starting in January 2019 we began collaborating with local schools in a 'Student of the Month' project.   Each month a high school arts educator will select a piece of student artwork to be exhibited at SCAA. In opening the professional exhibition process to schools, we hope it raises a greater appreciation of the arts for younger people, which in turn, will bring awareness to a wider community.

Empty Bowls

In 2018, we hosted a "bowlathon" to support the Rhode Island Food Bank. SCAA's participating artists created and stamped each bowl with our own potter's mark. We then sent them off to the fundraiser in which guests enjoy tastings from restaurants in a bowl created by local artists. All together we donated 122 bowls to this cause whose mission is to improve the quality of life for all Rhode Islanders by advancing solutions to the problem of hunger..

Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger personalized by artists and art organizations on a community level. It allows participating artists and groups to create and donate bowls, then they serve a simple meal.

Their goals include raising money to feed the world's hungry people, increase awareness of hunger and related issues, and advocate for arts education.
