This class will emphasize direct methods of oil painting. Alla Prima means "at the first go" in Italian and aims to capture the attention of the viewer while communicating the excitement of the painter in a fresh and vibrant way. The goal of each session will be to complete a painting during the limited class time available, using creative compositional viewpoints, bravura brushwork, and impressionistic color. Several radical techniques for starting a painting will be introduced. Students may bring their own sketches or paintings as subjects, but the instructor will emphasize and demonstrate techniques with Still Life. All fluid media (acrylic, watercolor, water miscible oils) are welcome; the instructor will be using oils.
