Soda firing is an atmospheric firing technique where “soda” is introduced into the kiln near top temperature. The soda evaporates and is carried on the flame throughout the kiln. The soda vapors create a glaze when it lands on a piece. The first class will be talking and preparing the pottery for the kiln. The second class is loading and firing of the kiln. This kiln is designed for the learning environment. White stoneware clay is required and we will be firing to cone 6. Please bring bisqued pieces to the first class. Bring a variety of pieces since the kiln is small and there is a possibility that not all will fit.
