Where does abstract art come from? The goal of this course is to use your own drawings, that you’ll create based on observed subjects, to explore the myriad ways these drawings can be a starting point for abstracted work. We will use a variety of exercises to get you drawing “what you see” in your surroundings, then examine your drawings for their mark-making and compositional qualities to create a series of work that gradually moves toward abstraction. We will use a variety of media including; drawing, painting and collage to discover new possibilities for rich compositions.

Note: This class will be taught remotely. Students should be available on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am-2pm. Mornings will consist of group meetings on ZOOM. Students will have scheduled, individual ZOOM meetings in the afternoon.
