The Interior Life in Pastel: Quiet and Lively | Zoom | February 5
We’re spending a lot of time indoors lately, so why not paint it? In this class we’ll explore the rich opportunities for color, light, surface, and texture offered by our surroundings as we hunker down this winter. We’ll start quietly, focusing on the form and drama of a single object (for example, a lit lamp, an upholstered chair, a draped window); then move to a limited scene (for example, a furnished corner); then expand our views to comprise fuller rooms and and interiors with people. Whether it’s the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living areas, or public spaces such as libraries, museums, or schools, interiors offer great variety for capturing mood and moments in everyday life. This class is designed for students with some experience in drawing and/or soft pastel. Class time will consist of recorded, narrated demos and discussion/evaluations, with painting time outside of class.
