Slab Clay Open Box | Zoom | January 28
“Slabbing” clay is a handbuilding pottery technique that has been around for centuries. Before pottery wheels, simple tools and slabs of clay were used to create ceramic ware. These handbuilding techniques include rolling out soft clay into slabs, cutting the slab into shapes, then attaching the shapes together to create ceramic pots. Once you have mastered the slab technique, the creative possibilities are endless!
In this 1.5 hour virtual workshop, we will be creating a square ceramic box with a lid; the workshop is a demonstration-based Zoom presentation. It will be recorded so you can revisit it later for reference and clarification of techniques. You will be provided with a kit containing everything needed to complete your own box. Once you create a box, it will be fired and glazed for you. You will be able to pick up your finished box after the glaze firing.
Pick up your art kit at SCAA anytime from January 21-24. We'll email further instructions after you register.
