Coil Vessels | Zoom | February 10
Making pottery predates the invention of the pottery wheel and coiling is one of the most ancient methods from around the world going back to prehistorical times. Coil pots have been found on every continent. Coiling is a versatile hand building method, basically used when the clay is in its soft state. You will learn how to make coils and attach them together. We will investigate how the coils themselves can create design throughout the form.
This Zoom lesson gives you a choice of 3 different projects, all can be functional: a vase, planter or a press mold bowl (if you have an appropriate bowl at home and newspaper). Anni Barnard will lead you step by step for some fun and adventure in the process of coil building. You will be able to review the video afterwards for reference. You will be provided with a kit containing everything needed to complete your own vessel. Once you create a vessel, it will be fired and glazed for you. You will be able to pick up your finished vessel after the glaze firing.
Pick up your art kit at SCAA anytime from February 4-7. We'll email further instructions after you register.
