Mask Making with Clay | Zoom | March 16- Closed
Mask making is a century old technique that can be made out of many materials including wood, metal, paper, fiber and clay to name a few. Masks can take on a variety of meanings having to do with festivals, war, religious and social ceremonies. In this Zoom lesson we will work with clay exploring the techniques of slump mold and slab, with sculptural elements such as eyes, nose and mouth. Your mask might create a theme, story or simply be a classic face with an expression. We will explore how color, texture, form and expression can help create a story or theme. Newspaper and tape will be used for the mold.
Come join Anni Barnard and investigate the possibilities of making a clay mask for decoration that can ultimately be hung on a tree, wall or door. Zoom will last approximately an hour and half. You will be able to review the video afterwards for reference. You will be provided with a kit needed to complete your own mask. Once you create a mask, it will be fired and glazed for you. You will be able to pick up your finished mask after the glaze firing.
