There are three ways to think of color which I will help you understand; they are Hue, Value, and Color Intensity. I learned how to see color by spending weeks (in class and on my own) mixing paint to match swatches of colored paper taped to a wall. We started with one piece then moved to two, one sheet placed over the other. It might sound easy but trying to get the top color to sit flat and not visually sink in or jump off was surprisingly more difficult than I thought! In time, I'm happy to say I was able to mix colors in my mind's eye by looking at them. There is something spiritual about that and you too will have that opportunity which I will help you understand.
During this course by using the same colors of paint, you will spend much time matching many colors I have created. We'll start off mixing combinations of two colors, then three. You will later use these colors to copy my simply constructed 5x7 paintings of landscapes and still life objects. You can't go wrong with this method. From there you will be able to copy from photographs and paint en plein air with much greater confidence. Click here for the materials list.
