The unique process of Raku merges the potter’s skills with the spontaneity of fire and melted glass. The pieces are heated quickly to 1900 degrees then pulled from the kiln glowing orange. Immediately the glaze crackles with air contact. The pot is then placed into a chamber with a combustible material. As the paper ignites, a lid is closed onto the chamber, smothering the fire. The result is a carbon black body and black crackle throughout the white glaze. Elusive copper red lusters and bright color highlight the pieces. Join this firing workshop and experience raku for yourself. Bring bisque fired pieces glazed and ready to fire.
