Building a Soda Kiln
Soda firing is a process with results very similar to wood firing, but instead of being "glazed" by melted wood ash the glazing comes from melted soda (which occurs at a much lower temperature). In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to convert a non-working electric kiln into a gas-fire soda kiln, and then test the results with your own bisqued pieces (results not guaranteed!). Pieces to be test-fired should be made with lighter clay bodies so the distinctive flashing effects are noticeable.
